My book The Idea of Luxury: A Conceptual and Historical Investigation was published in 1994 (still print). While what follows is bound to be self-referential also presumptuous that it premised on there being some interest these reflections the a quarter century plus later. partial defense has been extensively cited widely acknowledged as an important influential contribution.
